Orchestral Strings
Violin
A four stringed instrument, tuned in perfect fifths. Sometimes called a fiddle. Highest pitched of the violin group.
Viola
Similar to a violin, larger in size with a lower sound and tuned in perfect fifths starting with C3 (C3, G3, D4, A4).
Cello
Larger than Violin or Viola, it has and endpin allowing it to rest on the floor in an upright position. Tuned in perfect fifths an octave below the Viola (C2, G2, D3, A3).
Double Bass
Commonly called the upright bass, the lowest of the violin family, can be played bowed or by hand. Tuned in perfect fifths (E1, A1, D2, G2).
